Game of Thrones Premiere Party Ideas: Winter is Coming...

Updated on May 1, 2016

WINTER IS COMING

...and so is Game of Thrones!

HBO's Game of Thrones is one of the best television series ever produced, defying genre expectations and stereotypes to draw a wide and varied audience. I love it! George R.R. Martin's books are amazing, and the show so far has held up to my expectations. I am planning on having a Game of Thrones premiere party, and wanted to share some of my ideas.

Game of Thrones Party Menu

Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Sariann Lehrer created of the Game of Thrones food blog, Inn at the Crossroads, where you can find recipes inspired by the Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. They have also written A Feast of Ice and Fire, the official cookbook of recipes based on meals described in Game of Thrones. The recipes from the book are easily followed by anyone and you don't need special equipment or knowledge. It's perfect for creating my Game of Thrones party!

I'll be making the following dishes, all found in A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook:

Mulled Wine

Mutton in Onion-Ale Broth

Honeyed Chicken

Sweetcorn Fritters

Salad at Castle Black

Lemon Cakes

Tyroshi Honeyfingers

"I must do my part for the honor of my house, wouldn't you agree? But how? Well, my brother has his sword and I have my mind. And a mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone."

If you love the Game of Thrones series on HBO like I do, you should certainly read the fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, that the show is based on. And, if you read the books, your mouth will be watering over the descriptions of the meals George R.R. Martin writes about so lovingly. A Feast of Ice and Fire gives us the recipes for re-creating those meals, which are perfect for Game of Throne parties! This is a well-written and researched cookbook with gorgeous pictures and will make a wonderful gift for the GoT fan. The authors researched old medieval cooking practices and recipe books to find real foods similar the ones in the series, then adapted those recipes for modern methods and ingredients. Both the historical recipe sources and the modern adaptations are included, which makes for a fascinating read.

In the game of thrones, - you win...or you die.

I think I'll stick to poker at my party!
